Walking with Spirit
The Way of the Hummingbird, faith and the path as it unfolds
By the Grace of Great Spirit,
In January 2026 I published Way of the Hummingbird, my first book. It is about my personal journey with indigenous wisdom, natural plant sacraments, and the living traditions that have guided humans toward healing and spiritual realisation for thousands of years.
For years people have asked me to share more of my story, my life's journey and the wisdom and knowledge I have gained along the way. This is why I wrote my book which took me almost 2 years to complete. It was while writing the book, amidst a lot of adversity and challenges, that I realised there is a huge volume of knowledge and experiences that I have to share.
As the process of writing continued to unfold and as the word-count was ever-climbing, I realised I had to limit how much I could put into one book. As it stands Way of the Hummingbird is a vast and detailed book, but there is a lot more to share that didn't make it into the book. Some of those things I just can't share for spiritual reasons, or because they are not really appropriate or even possible to transmit through the written word. Other things are sensitive and will have to wait for the right timing to share.
Life is a spiritual journey and we are in the hands of God - Great Spirit - our Creator, the omnipresence that we are all a part of, that we have so many names for. It sounds like a new age cliché but I have come to know that it is my faith in Great Spirit that guides and protects me in this life. Even though sometimes the challenges are big and I am asked or guided to carry things in this life that I would not choose, I return to my faith that everything is as it is meant to be and I am part of a divine plan. Faith keeps me grounded in my path and opens my mind and my path to the miracles of life.
People keep telling me that what I carry is big and important for the Earth in these times. I feel in my relationship to God that I am really just doing my work, learning my soul's lessons and being of service to the Earth and all its beings. At times I find myself expanding into oneness with all of Creation, at other times I am just a tiny grain of sand on the vast cosmic beach. I look to the waves of the ocean to take me and for the majesty of Yemanjá, the Orixá of the ocean to hold me in the sways of those seas.
My father is Ogum, the great warrior of strength in truth who opens the pathways to my evolving path, to the light, to the love and to the abundance of this human life on Earth. I thank my guides and my ancestors for all the lessons. I pray every day to find the balance between my desires in my humanness and the responsibilities I hold on my path of Spirit and to the community that I serve. I pray for compassion for myself and all those I may have hurt in my learning. I am still a student of this life and of Spirit's walk.
Estou aprendendo a me curar
Eu peço conforto das águas do mar
Eu peço conforto da mãe Yemanjá
Estou aprendendo a deixar a ilusão
Eu peço a clareza das águas do mar
Eu peço a clareza da mãe Yemanjá
Estou aprendendo a me firmar
Eu peço a firmeza nas águas do mar
Eu peço a força da mãe Yemanjá
- Estou Aprendendo, Rainer Sheurenbrand
This is a beautiful hino (hymn) from a brother within our medicine community that I often sing. Here is the translation:
I'm learning to heal myself
I ask for comfort from the waters of the sea
I ask for comfort of the mother Yemanjá
I'm learning to let go of the illusion
I ask for clarity from the waters of the sea
I ask for clarity of the mother Yemanjá
I'm learning to steady myself
I ask for firmness from the waters of the sea
I ask for the force of the mother Yemanjá
I write, sing and share my art as my act of service, not for myself alone but for the community of loving, present, and courageous people whose faith is one of the greatest blessings of my life.
I pray that we can join our forces of light and love for the good of this Earth and for all of humanity. That we heal together in love and mercy, where we can rest our souls in peace after aeons of trauma that has afflicted this world.
We are all children of God, we are all learning in this beautiful garden and I pray that we can support each other with this love and compassion to heal and awaken to its beauty together. This is my prayer and this is my intention, with my writing, my art, my music and on this path.
To those who come to this blog with an open mind and genuine curiosity — I welcome you. To those who are part of the communities whose healing and spiritual lives intersect with what I share here — I see you, and I am still here.
This is my story, told in my own words. I hope it reaches the people it is meant to reach. Thanks for reading and for being with me on this journey.
Saravá!
